جيفة

الجيفة هو ذلك الجسم الحيوي الميت والذي قد يكون بدأ في التحلل والتفسخ.[1][2][3] يعتبر الجيف مصدرًا غذائيًا مهمًا للحيوانات آكلة اللحوم في معظم النظم البيئية. تشمل الأمثلة على أكلة الجيف النسور، والكندور والصقور والعقاب[4] الضباع[5] وحيوان أبوسوم فرجينيا[6] ودبب شياطين تسمانيا[7] وذئب البراري[8] وسحلة تنانين كومودو والعديد من اللافقاريات مثل حشرات الدرقيات والخنافس،[9] وكذلك اليرقات من الذباب،وغيرها.[10]
