English: The monument commemorates the significant Battle of Los Arapiles of July 22, 1812 won by the Anglo-Luso-Germano-Spanish Army led by Arthur Wellesley, over the napoléonic troops (French troops supplemented by contingents supplied by the countries submitted to the napoléonic régime).

Designed and manufactured by Angel Seseña García (1870-1955) end of 1910, it was erected on the hill Arapil Grande, and inaugurated on July 22, 1912 by unveiling an elaborated commemorative plaque, now gone, also by A. Seseña, which read :
LOS 50 // DEL ADELANTO. // EN CONMEMORACION // DEL 1er CENTENARIO // DE LA BATALLA DE ARAPILES. // 22 julio 1912.
followed, in smaller letters, by : RECUERDO DE / Angel Seseña.

The newspaper El Adelanto published five photos of the event and reported it in these words, the whole filling up a full page :
Salamanca ha celebrado estos dias con gran solemnidad el primer centenario de la famosa batalla de Arapiles, ganada en 1812 à las tropas del mariscal francès Marmont por el ejército aliado al mando de Wellington. El Adelanto, importante periódico salamantono, organizó festojos en conmemoración de este suceso, siendo el más notable une gira al campo donde se libró la batalla, á la que asitieron más de doscientas personas, que fueron galatemente obsequiedas y atendidas por el director de dicho periódico, Don Mariano Nuñez, y los redactores del mismo.

The plaque, having later lamentably succumbed to an act of vandalism, was replaced by a simple white marble plaque, reading : ARAPILES. 22 julio 1812.

Still later, on the occasion of the bi-centenary of the Victory of Arapiles, 2012, a black marble plaque was affixed at the foot of the obelisk (<► File:Los_Arapiles_22_July_1812_-_Plaque_2012.jpg). It already bears, between the M and the B, the mark of yet another act of vandalism.

On the right of the monument, in the distance : the hill Arapil Chico and, further afield, the city of Salamanca. On its left, the village of Arapiles.

Access to the monument by car from (40.8947, -5.6312) along road DSA-106, and a ca. 800 m long earth road (which can be guessed behind the obelisk, suitable for an ordinary car, by dry weather) up to the foot of a path at (40.88847, -5.62785) leading to the top of the hill Arapil Grande and the monument.
